Computer Design Error Will Affect Taiwan Notebook Shipments

Intel's computer design error on its 6 Series of chipsets will affect shipments by Taiwan notebook manufacturers. The issue is not just a product recall, but the bigger impact that it causes on the supply chain shipping schedule for the new platform that has been totally upended. Intel has corrected the error and begun manufacturing a new version already, but the interruption was enough to delay shipments of notebook computers by 2-3 months, having a measurable impact on first-quarter results.
Intel has not ramped up to full production on the new version of the chipset, and they probably won't get there until April. This means that at the moment notebook computer ODM service providers are waiting for the new chipsets to reach them, causing their stocks to drop and raising the possibility that the issue could extend into the second quarter as well.
