Windows is getting further behind by making you pay

Computer innovation is far outweighing software innovation on many fronts. Computers are getting lighter and thinner, as well as bigger screens, while some software seems to be going backwards. Since Microsoft lost most of its anti trust cases in the US and Europe, they can no longer automatically populate Windows Operating System on all new computers. Buyers now have much more of a choice than ever before. Linux is one of the most common Operating Systems after Windows and for good reason.

When Windows was the only game in town, users had no choice but to go along with all the upgrades. Even when you were quite happy with the release that you had, Microsoft forced you to get the upgrade because all of their software eventually was tweak to only work with the new edition.

When Windows Vista came along, that was when users really started to look for alternatives. Vista required most computer owners to upgrade memory, at a significant cost. And what was worse, Vista was so full of bugs it didn't operate properly for over a year…and required constant updates.

With so many great free open source programs, why pay for something that requires you to upgrade your computer memory or processor? Wouldn't you rather pay for innovation than memory?
